SUNDAY      Near Artist Village

Cajun music is a powerful magnet internationally for musicians of all instruments: violinists, guitarists, accordionists, bassists, percussionists, et al! Hundreds of very talented musicians have immigrated to Louisiana solely because of the music. They are drawn here because the music is so infectious...and they never leave!

This festival component features some of those very musicians! Famed Eunice accordion-builder Marc Savoy, whose Saturday morning Jam Session has attracted many of these non-Louisiana musicians over the past 49 years, felt that local Cajuns would be very pleased to know how well non-Cajuns have learned to play traditional Cajun music.

Non-Louisiana natives Jim Phillips and Carl Brazell, both long-time permanent residents of SW Louisiana, volunteered to organize this project for the Experience Louisiana Festival.

Jim Phillips...

Carl Brazell was born in Texas but moved to Crowley as an adolescent. He was so captured by the Cajun culture that he learned to cook the food and speak French beginning at about age 14. Today a resident of Breaux Bridge, he is an avid fan of Cajun music, a regular at the Savoy Saturday Morning Jam Session in Eunice, and has been learning to play accordion for about 15 years, owning three of Marc's fine hand-made accordions.
